COLLEGE ROUNDUP Oregon wins distance medley relay at Penn Relays Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 25, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Apr. 25, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News PHILADELPHIA — Oregon won the men’s distance medley relay and women’s sprint medley relay at the Penn Relays Friday, thanks to strong anchor legs from Edward Cheserek and Annie Leblanc. The men’s DMR team defended its Penn Relays title despite replacing three seniors from the 2014 team. The group of Johnny Gregorek, Marcus Chambers, Niki Franzmair and Cheserek combined for a winning time of 9:33.86. The women’s sprint medley team of Jasmine Todd, Jenna Prandini, Raevyn Rogers and Leblanc won Oregon’s first title in the event, edging out Clemson in 3:44.59. The final relay for the Ducks will be the men’s 4xmile today. SOU TRACK: Southern Oregon’s Anthony Neal, of Crater, and Anna Reitman both placed seventh at the Cascade Conference Multi-Event Championships, and a trio of Raiders qualified automatically for the NAIA Championships at Cal's Brutus Hamilton Open. At Berkeley, Calif., in the 5,000 meters, Max Runia, of Crater, placed second in 14:31.89, Eric Ghelfi was fourth in 14:33.29 and Ray Schireman, of North Medford, was 11th in 14:44.72 for 'A' standard marks. The CCC multis, which began Thursday at Hermiston High, ended with Neal and Reitman both earning two team points for the Raiders going into the CCC Championships. Neal totaled 4,934 points in the men's decathlon and Reitman scored 3,641 in the women's heptathlon. Neal had his best moment in the 110-meter hurdles, placing fifth in 18.94 seconds. The decathlon was won by Eastern Oregon's Ryan Rosenau, who scored 6,687, second best in the NAIA this season. Former Rogue River athlete Seth Gretz of Oregon Tech was third. Baseball USC 11, OSU 3: At Corvallis, USC scored two apiece in the fourth and fifth innings and broke the game open with a six-run seventh to rout Oregon State in Pac-12 play. The Trojans are 30-10, 11-5 in the Pac-12. The Beavers are 25-13 and 8-8. Caleb Hamilton highlighted OSU’s night with a third-inning home run. Andrew Moore (4-2) started for the Beavers and surrendered nine hits and six runs in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five. Softball SOU 7-0, CONCORDIA 5-6: At Happy Valley, Southern Oregon rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the sixth inning of the opener before dropping the nightcap to No. 15 Concordia, which had its Cascade Conference title hopes dashed with the defeat. Alexa Gonzalez's three-run homer and go-ahead single keyed the Raiders' rally. The Raiders scored first ni the sixth on a throwing error that brought home Cortney Nolan and put Kelsey Randall on base. Two batters later, Gonzalez's fifth homer of the year made it 5-4. With two on and one out in the seventh, Randall slapped an RBI single to the opposite field that tied it. Gonzalez followed with a two-run single. Brianne Craig allowed eight hits and three earned runs in a complete-game win, improving to 14-7. Randall broke nine-year-old SOU single-season records for hits (82) and runs (53) in the contest. Concordia needed a sweep to tie Oregon Tech for the regular season title. The Cavs (40-14 overall, 21-7 CCC) were locked into the No. 2 seed for the Cascade/Frontier Conference tournament next week in Klamath Falls. Corban is No. 3, Great Falls (Mont.) No. 4 and SOU No. 5. The Raiders open the double-elimination tournament at 9 a.m. Friday against Great Falls. SOU is 32-24 and 13-15. OREGON 8, LOUISIANA 0, 5 inn.: At Eugene, outfielder Janie Takeda became Oregon’s all-time leader in hits and stolen bases as the No. Ducks topped No. 9 Louisiana. Nikki Udria hit a walk-off home run to clinch a no-hitter for UO pitcher Cheridan Hawkins in the fifth. Oregon (39-5) used a five-run second inning to break the game open. Hawkins (21-3) pitched around walks in the first and fourth innings and tied her season high with 11 strikeouts. It was her sixth career no-hitter.
