Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 20, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Jun. 20, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News June 20, 1915 LIGHT FRANCHISE POSTPONED UNTIL LAWSUIT SETTLED At a special meeting of the city council held Friday night, definite action regarding the granting of a franchise to the Rogue River Public Service corporation was postponed until after July 15, when the California-Oregon Power company and City of Medford's suit will begin before the federal court at Portland. In this suit the city invalidates its franchise with the California-Oregon Power Company, claiming that it owns the local light plant. To grant a franchise is in direct contravention of the city charter, as it will impair the value of the city's property, if the claims advanced by the city in the case are upheld by the court. DOUBLE HEADER IN BASEBALL FOR TOMORROW Tomorrow will find the Hornbrook and Grants Pass baseball teams here to furnish some good playing for the local fandom. Two games are to be played, the first at 1:30 p.m. and the second directly after the first is over. Hornbrook will be the first to lock horns with Medford, and according to the latest reports, they are here to get revenge for the defeat Medford gave Yreka last Sunday. The California boys have been going at a very rapid clip this season, and when they trot onto the diamond Sunday it will be with a determination to even up matters. Grants Pass will be on the program for game No. 2, with "Hub" Pernoll, former Coast league star, as the mound artist. This will be "Hub's" first appearance since he left the San Francisco camp a short time ago, and this fact alone should prove a great attraction. After his lay-off, Pernoll should be in the pink of condition, and if reports from the Pass are to be taken seriously, he intends to twirl his best in order to bring his hometown boys across the pan with the large end of the score. As a great deal of rivalry exists between the two teams and supporters, there is sure to be a riot in the way of rooting. Manager Roper of the Pass team wires that his boys are in great shape, and along with them will be a large delegation of fans to lend their lusty yells towards helping their team to victory.
