Glowing grins photo by Jim Craven The Sonnet Lane home of Linda and Rick Smith has more than 100 guests camping out in the front yard for the holiday. Home is a jack-o'-lantern haven If seeing a jack-o'-lantern out front warms a trick-or-treater's heart, the scene at Linda and Rick Smith's house should have hearts positively roasting. With a little help from their friends, the Medford couple and their kids plan to put out 140 carved, glowing pumpkins each night this weekend. Linda Smith says the home at 2809 Sonnet Lane attracts hordes of trick-or-treaters. The annual pumpkin rite started 15 years ago with several families getting together to carve the orange vegetables. Soon each friend brought other friends, little kids got bigger, and everybody kept carving. "It kept doubling," Linda Smith says. The carving party this year involved about 25 people. "We gutted pumpkins for two and a half hours," Smith says. Jenna Smith, 11, carved several with her friends. Matt Smith, 15, was pressed into service getting rid of pumpkin guts.
