"These are the best of the best," says Steve Curry, looking ahead to the third annual Concours de Hot Rod Car Show. The show of classic and special interest cars will be held at the Medford Armory Saturday, Oct. 2, as a benefit for Rogue Valley Youth For Christ/Campus Life. "This is the only show of its kind between San Francisco and Portland," Curry adds. Curry is owner of Heritage Motors in Medford, which is sponsoring the show with help from other merchants. It is different from other shows in that it is run by volunteers with proceeds going to charity. A total of 54 vehicles will be shown inside the Armory, six each in nine different categories. It is a juried show, with 14 trophies to be presented. The cars come from all over, some local, some from as far away as Houston, Texas. Many of the vehicles to be displayed have won top awards at major car shows around the nation. Some of the more unusual local ones include a 1932 Ford High Boy, which Curry says is "currently the only electronic hillbourn fuel injection flathead V-8 on the world." It is owned by Bob and Sherry Flurry of Central Point. Others are a 1951 Nash Kelvinator, owned by Ed and Elane Bittle of Central Point, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Frank Pond of Medford and a 1955 Mercury Montclair owned by Chuck Strickland of Medford. The show, which includes a dinner, silent and verbal auctions, awards and raffles, runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $5, plus another $5 for those who wish to attend the catered dinner beginning at 5 p.m. The silent auction will begin at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 p.m. with the verbal auction to follow at 7 p.m. Awards and drawings will be at 8:30 p.m. Auction items will include romantic getaways. entertainment packages, jewelry, furniture and many other items.
