Pilots topple Mavericks twice Local roundup CENTRAL POINT -- The Central Point Pilots ended their American Legion baseball season on a winning note Monday, sweeping an American Legion doubleheader from the Medford Mavericks, 9-1, 12-3 at Anhorn Field. The Pilots (28-6) had 23 hits with Brian Overstake leading the way in the opener going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. P.J. Pardee chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort, while K.J. Chubb picked up his 10th win on the mound striking out seven in seven complete innings. Ryan Gibson led the Pilot attack in the second game going 3-for-5, while Dan Casey had two hits. Little League Brookings and Roseburg each took home softball titles in their respective divisions at the District 8 Little League Tournament at the Medford National Little League Fields over the weekend. It took Brookings nine innings to defeat Rogue River in the 13-14 year-old division championship. Rogue River rallied with a run in the top of the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings. Brookings then held Rogue River scoreless in the next two innings, while scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. In the 11-12 year-old division, Roseburg scored 13 runs on four hits to pick up the district title with a 13-6 victory over Medford. Roseburg scored in five of the six innings despite being outhit by Medford who had eight hits on the day. MEDFORD AMERICAN SENIOR GIRLS MAKE STATE -- The Medford American Senior girls won the District 6 Little League Title and will play in the state tournament in Portland July 24th through the 26th. At Klamath Falls, Medford pulled out an 11-10 victory over South Surburban after coming from behind to tie the game at 10 in the seventh inning. Jamie Guider led off the eighth with a walk for Medford, then stole second and third base. With two outs, Amanda Cregan hit a line drive over second base for the winning run that gave Medford the District Title. MEDFORD AMERICANS ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP -- At Hunter Park, The Medford American All Star team advanced to Thursday's District 6 Little League Baseball championship with a 10-0 four-inning win over the Klamath Falls South Suburban Red All Star Team. Mike Barry picked up the win on the mound for Medford throwing a one hitter with nine strikeouts in four innings. Cole Rohrbough, who scored two runs, led Medford going 3-for-3 with a double, while teammate Kyle Williamson chipped in with a 2-for-3 performance. Medford had 13 hits in the four-inning game. ASHLAND ELIMINATES PHOENIX-TALENT -- At Hunter Park, Ashland pitcher Jesse Richards struck out 11, while giving up four hits to help Ashland advance to today's 6 p.m. semifinal game against the Klamath Falls South Surburban Nationals in Monday's District 6 Little League Baseball Tournament. The winner of today's semifinal game will face the Medford Americans in the championship game on Wednesday also at Hunter Park.
