Retailers look at Future Shop space Several retailers -- including Old Navy and possibly Best Buy -- have expressed interest in leasing the former Future Shop building in Medford's Crater Lake Plaza. Future Shop, which closed its U.S. stores in March, has a long-term lease on the building and is seeking retailers to assume it. Future Shop spokesman Eric Ommundsen said the company's real estate division is "talking to quite a number of retailers" about the 25,400-square-foot building. He confirmed that clothing seller Old Navy was among them. He said the company has talked with Best Buy, a leading electronics retailer, about several stores, but wasn't certain if the Medford location was one of them. Old Navy, also thought to be considering a space in the Medford Center, declined to discuss its plans. A representative who handles store openings said Medford did not appear on the company's most recent real estate report. Best Buy spokeswoman Joy Harris said the Minnesota-based company is expanding into the Northwest next year but she knew of no plans to open a store in Medford. She said the company is researching a number of potential markets. Best Buy has purchased three former Future Shops, two in Washington and one in Montana, Harris said.
