Catharine Carson Sotzing Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Dec. 4, 2014 at 2:00 AM Posted Dec. 4, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News Catharine Carson Sotzing passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday November 24, 2014 in Fullerton, Calif. Known as Kit, or Cam, she was the love of Ralph's life and he was the love of hers. His zest for life and her razor-sharp wit made them fun people to be around. Born in December 1923 in Shenandoah, Iowa, Catharine was the daughter of Homer and Ruth Carson of Columbus, Neb. She was the sister of television personality, Johnny Carson and television director, Richard Carson. In 1944 she married Ralph Franklin Sotzing of Bethlehem, Pa., who was working as a United Airlines DC-3 pilot in Denver, Colo. Catharine graduated from Norfolk High School and attended The University of Nebraska. She had a passion for reading and laughter which she frequently shared with her brothers. Her sense of humor was an inspiration for her brothers. Catharine and Ralph raised three sons in the Philadelphia area. She worked as a medical secretary, taught stop smoking classes, managed tennis clubs with Ralph, and even tried their hand at the B&B business running the Gosby House in Pacific Grove, Calif. In 1993 Kit and Ralph retired to the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Ore. where they made many new friends and enjoyed retirement for over twenty years. She moved to Fullerton in 2012. She is survived by her brother, Richard; her three sons, Steve Sotzing of Old Greenwich, Conn., Michael Sotzing of Kent, Wash., and Jeffrey Sotzing of Fullerton, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A private memorial is planned for the spring of 2015 in Pacific Grove, Calif. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society.
