North Medford opened a 3-0 lead through one inning and eventually dropped Centennial to the loser’s bracket with a 12-1, five-inning victory on Day 2 of the eight-team tournament. Kindreich struck out four and walked none for the Mavericks (42-7-1), who next face Pendleton at 7 tonight. Kasey Buchanan slapped a two-run double in the second inning and Berry Hunt added a two-run double in the fourth to highlight the day at the plate for North Medford. Buchanan and Hunt each finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, while Bennett Rodgers was 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. North Medford;321;33;—;12;12;2 Centennial;000;10;—;1;4;5 H. Softball LOS GATOS MAGIC 8, CRATER 0: Hailee Hillyer supplied a triple in the fourth inning but Crater was unable to advance her in the the Comets’ best scoring opportunity of the bracket-opening loss to the NorCal ASA champions in the ASA 12B Western National girls fastpitch tournament at U.S. Cellular Community Park. The Comets must defeat the South Valley Storm of Junction City at 9 a.m. today to stay alive in the double-elimination tourney. Southern Cal ASA champion Bonita Valley rallied from a 4-2 deficit with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to stave off San Mateo, 6-4. Arisa Tovar's two-run go-ahead single thwarted the upset and helped set up a Round of 16 showdown with NorCal luminary Rohnert Park. No. 3 seed San Carlos of NorCal ASA staged the day's biggest upset by upending West Valley, a No. 1 seed from Southern Cal ASA, 3-2. Oregon shot 219 on the third and final day of the 18-team competition, giving it a 642 score, the same as British Columbia. Southern California won at 623. Fisher tied for 20th place overall with a 1-under 215. In the final round, he bogeyed four of the first six holes, then played the final 12 in even par. Oregon’s other players were Kevin Geniza (71), Spencer Tibbits (72) and Bryce Wortman (76). Girls Golf JUNIOR AMERICA’S CUP: At Cheyenne, Wyo., Crater High’s Daniele Giles shot an 81 in the final round of the 54-hole tournament, helping Oregon to fourth place at Cheyenne Country Club. Giles’ score was not used toward the team total. The top three scores of the four-girl team counted. Oregon had a 690 total for three days, including 228 on Day 3. Mexico won with a 661. Other Oregon players were Ellen Secor (74), Ellie Slama (75) and Taylor Hartley (79).
