Challengers, Loggers split twin bill Apr 23, 2006 12:00 AM A A Prep Roundup PROSPECT ' Cascade Christian bounced back impressively in a District 6 baseball doubleheader against Butte Falls/Prospect Saturday. After absorbing a 3-1 loss in the first game at the hands of pitcher Darryl Swearingen, the Challengers erupted for a 25-2, five-inning win in Game 2. Cascade Christian batted around in the first inning and scored seven runs en route to its first league win. It is 7-8, 1-5 in District 6. Sophomore catcher Jordan Banks led the way for the Challengers, going 4-for-4 and driving in four runs. Danny Sha was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Aaron Grissom and Kyle Campbell each had two hits and three RBIs. Campbell pitched a three-hitter in the nightcap. In the first game, Swearingen improved to 7-1, allowing six hits, striking out 15 and walking three. — They really struggled hitting his junk, said Butte Falls coach Randy Stephenson of Swearingen, who throws four pitches. It was working pretty good today, especially his curveball. Butte Falls (10-6, 3-3 Dist. 6) scored all three runs in the third inning. Chris Stephenson led off with a double, and Lance Strickland walked. Swearingen doubled in Stephenson, and after Strickland was out on a fielder's choice, Jacob Schultz and Joey Knighton rapped RBI singles. Swearingen and Stephenson each had two hits. Ryan Ziegler was 3-for-4 for Cascade Christian. Skyline Baseball MAZAMA 4-12, ROGUE RIVER 0-2 ' At Klamath Falls, Mazama allowed only eight hits in the Skyline sweep. In Game 1, the Vikings' Cory Stratton allowed two hits and struck out seven against the Chieftains (7-9-1, 4-6 Skyline). Mazama collected nine runs on 10 hits over the first two innings of the second game. The Vikings (11-6, 8-2 Skyline) hold down second place in the Skyline Conference. North Valley recovered in Game 2, scoring 10 runs in the first inning against the Mustangs (5-10, 3-6 Skyline). The Knights' (3-11, 2-8 Skyline) Tim Stickler had a homer in each game. In the second game, his two-run shot was followed by Mat Turner's solo homer.
