School board decides to offer job to Manary CENTRAL POINT -- Longtime schools administrator Candy Manary is preparing to move into the district's head office. The school board has agreed to offer the superintendent's job to Manary, currently the district's education director. She was the only applicant for the job, which had been offered only to present district employees. Chairman Dave Gilmour said Wednesday that the board interviewed Manary Tuesday and was unanimous in its agreement that she would be the best successor to Mike McClain, who is retiring. "We've been impressed with her all along," Gilmour said. "She has done a wonderful job transforming the TAG (Talented and Gifted) program, and our character-education curriculum. "Since she has moved up through the system, people know her and are comfortable with her." Manary came to Central Point 25 years ago as a teacher. She has been dean and principal of Scenic Middle School and principal at Jewett Elementary. The board decided several weeks ago to offer McClain's post to in-district candidates first because they would be most familiar with the major curriculum revisions the district is just now completing. Gilmour said Manary "can just step right in. The problem is going to be filling her position." The board agree to formally offer the job to Manary at its Jan. 26 session. She will receive the same salary as McClain, $91,586, Gilmour said. "Unfortunately," he said, "we're not in a position where we can offer anyone a salary increase."
