The Grizzlies did it just in time, winning 47-46 after trailing by 10 with under four minutes to play. Ashland (8-1) advances to tonight’s title game against Roseburg at 9:30. "We extended to a full-court press in the nick of time," Grizzly coach Rick Cornelius said. "All of a sudden we got into the open floor, got some quick steals and some big baskets." Josh McDermott scored the game-winning point. With 14 seconds remaining and the game tied at 46, the senior sank one of two free throws. Corvallis missed a desperation shot on the other end. Senior post Josh Cornelius sparked the late Ashland rally, scoring nine of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter. "He was absolutely crucial," coach Cornelius said. "He is playing very well right now and shooting the ball extremely well." Advertisement On the other end of the court, the Grizzlies forced five steals in the final four minutes. The Spartans slogged their way to a 36-30 lead after three quarters, fueled by Harrison Harter’s 13 points. "It was a very slow-paced game," Cornelius said. "We were sleep-walking for three quarters, but halfway through the fourth quarter, we just blew up." Jeff Skinner led Ashland with nine rebounds. McDermott finished with eight points and Cory Costantino added nine. Tonight’s title game will be the second in as many weeks for Ashland, which won the Anderson (Calif.) Tournament on Dec. 18. Wiersma finished with 18 points and Jason Nunnemaker added 14 along with nine rebounds. Brad Erbe chipped in 14 points, six boards and five assists. The Cavemen shot 51 percent from the field and led 42-17 at the break. Grants Pass plays North Salem tonight at 6. Eagle Point held a one-point lead after the first quarter, but the Millers, who held a 32-15 rebounding advantage, went on a 17-9 run in the second stanza to pull away. Derek Grieve led the Eagles with 14 points and Juan Almaraz dished out six assists to go with nine points. Eagle Point faces Roosevelt in today’s consolation game. Alex Foster posted 15 points for the Pelicans, who committed only 10 turnovers. Drew Reed led Mazama with 17 points and seven boards, and Garrett Poetsch scored 11. The Pelicans (4-6) advanced to the title game with a 62-59 overtime win Monday night over Siuslaw. Klamath Union will begin Southern Oregon Conference play with a home game against Roseburg on Jan. 7. The 6-foot-3 senior scored 13 points for the Pirates, who have had only 21 turnovers since he began running the offense. Ben Decuir scored 11, and Marty Joseph grabbed seven rebounds.
