Whatever happened to them? — Mel D., Ashland. Chief Executive Officer Craig Johnson, Chief Financial Officer Michael Schwindle, Chief Information Officer Charles Hunsinger and Pam Turay, senior vice president of human resources and corporate sales, were all dismissed in February as 1-800-Flowers.Com made strategic changes to reduce redundancies, the company said at the time. The quartet of executives dispersed throughout the country: Johnson joined school supplies manufacturer The Aristotle Corp., in Fort Atkinson, Wis., as CEO in July; in May, Schwindle became CFO for Payless ShoeSource in Topeka, Kan.; Hunsinger has been vice president of customer technologies at LL Bean in Portland, Maine; and Turay now serves as senior vice president of human resources for Sarasota, Fla.-based Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. The foursome worked together previously at Musician's Friend before coming to Harry & David, but they went through a similar experience when Bain Capital shuttered Musician's Friend's Medford operation and merged it into Guitar Center's California office. Gibson went on to become COO at Gibson Guitar; Schwindle became CFO at Empire Today, the nation’s third-largest flooring installer; and Turay was also at Gibson Guitar.
