Gillispie cruised to victory in the boys 400 meters with a state-best time for all classifications of 48.70 to win going away and set a new standard at South Medford. The previous record was set by Eric McKenzie (49.68) in 1998. Gillispie also tied for second in the high jump by clearing the 6-foot mark and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team that finished in 3:26 in the non-scoring meet. “He had a great day,” South Medford head coach Tim Rupp said of Gillispie. “He’s a strong athlete and works hard every single day. Our goal today was a school record and he went out and got it.” Tristan Akery joined Gillispie in the long relay with Ty Boser and Andrew Merriman and also placed second in the 800 (1:57.6). South Medford’s Caleb Rayburn finished second in the shot put (48-1½), while Emily Lemons led the Panther girls by winning the 300 hurdles in 46.49 and finishing fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.66). Sara Miles finished second, but tied for the top distance, in the shot put at 35-9. Crater’s Tanner Berklund placed second in the 100 (11.28) and 200 (22.86), while teammate Ryan Davis was third in the shot put (47-2) and Javon Gill third in the discus (147-6). For Phoenix, Emma Amundsen placed second in the girls 3,000 (10:23.88) and Audrey Hazel was third in the 400 (1:00.62). GLIDE INVITATIONAL : At Glide, the St. Mary's girls used victories in both relays and a first in the long jump by Sarah Settimo to take the team title at the 20-school meet. The St. Mary's girls scored 102.5 points to 70 for second-place Lost River. Cascade Christian placed third (69) and Rogue River was ninth (28). In boys, St. Mary's finished third (64), while Cascade Christian was seventh (38) and Rogue River was eighth (34). Harrisburg won the meet with 95.25 points and La Pine placed second (89). The Crusader girls 4x400 relay set a Class 3A state-best time of 4:15.78 with the team of Emily Elmore, Gianna Isola, Meg Vasey and Madeline Volk. Elmore and Vasey, along with Sarah Thisted and Aessa Catt, won the 4x100 relay for the Crusaders with a mark of 53.21. Catt, a sophomore, also added second-place finishes in the 100 (13.32) and 200 (27.39). Settimo won the long jump with a leap of 30-11. Cascade Christian received a first from senior Trudy Burns in the javelin (123-6) while teammate Cheyenne Auchard placed third in the same event. The Challengers got a second from freshman Sophia Sellers in the high jump (4-8). Rogue River’s Keelie Worthington placed second in the 100 hurdles (18.19) and third in the 300 hurdles (51.20), and Skye Downhill took second in the discus (101-1). In boys, St. Mary's got individual victories from Josh Martin in the shot put (44-9.5) and Hunter Rothfus in the high jump (6-2). The Crusaders scored a win in the 4x400 relay (3.43.4) with Mark Wyant, Bryce Parsons, Elijah Conway and Denten Edwards. Rogue River senior Cody Wright won the 100 (11.61) and finished third in the 200 (24.05). The Chieftains got a first and second from junior Rio Lopez in the 800 and 1,500, respectively. Senior Tim McPherson of Cascade Christian registered a victory in the 3,000 (9:36.62.) while Ben Dunn was second in the high jump (6-0) for the Challengers. In a related meet, St. Mary's senior Marissa Dobry finished sixth in the 3,200 (10:56.69) at the Arcadia Invitational in Southern California. Dobry's equivalent 3,000 time of 10:14 would be a personal best and third fastest among all classes in Oregon this season.
