Residents will hear sirens and instructions at noon Monday. The test may last up to 30 minutes to check all three messages and the "silent test" that failed Wednesday, resulting in sirens sounding. The false alarm occurred while the system’s designer was demonstrating a routine biweekly silent alarm test as part of operations and maintenance training for city staff. A faulty siren control unit, rather than error on the part of an operator, caused the problem, city officials said. System designer/general contractor Squier & Associates will be present Monday and has arranged for supplier Federal Signal Corp. to have a technician on site to repair or replace the faulty equipment. The representatives will provide assurances that the system will function properly prior to Monday’s test, officials said.
