The Challengers used a big second quarter to pull away from the Pirates in a 79-47 victory. The victory improves Cascade to 6-0 in SCL play and sets up a match against 6-0 St. Mary’s Tuesday at the Crusaders’ gym. The Challengers trailed Glendale 11-9 with four minutes remaining in the first quarter when they applied a full-court zone press. Cascade outscored the Pirates 8-2 the rest of the quarter. Glendale’s troubles were compounded when 6-foot-5 senior post Dan Lovemark had to leave the game for good late in the first quarter with a sprained ankle. Lovemark scored six points up to that point. The Challengers capitalized on the press in the second quarter by outscoring the Pirates, 28-10, to take a 22-point halftime lead. "We trapped the ball real hard, and that led to some steals," Cascade Christian coach Brian Morse said. "They made 13 turnovers in the second quarter, and that led to some easy baskets." Mychal Sha tallied 11 of his game-high 20 points in the second period. Sha added six assists and six steals. Jon Gettman grabbed 12 rebounds for the Challengers, eight coming on the offensive boards.
