"I thought my neighbor's house was on fire from the backyard," Reavis said. After discovering the smoke was coming from her own home, Reavis tried to put it out with garden hoses but realized it was burning out of control. Six engines from Jackson County Fire District 3, Medford Fire-Rescue and Jacksonville Fire Department battled the flames, first reported at 3:45 p.m. Firefighters were initially unsure where the fire was coming from, District 3 spokeswoman Ashley Lara said. "Upon ventilating the roof they saw between 10- and 12-foot flame lengths," Lara said. A second alarm was called for additional resources to protect other houses nearby, Lara said. Lara said the fire's origin and cause are still under investigation. The fire was knocked down by 4:30 p.m. How much damage the fire caused was not immediately available. Reavis said she had smelled "something" inside her home in the days leading to the fire, but was unable to find a source. "We looked," she said.
