CRIME Little baseball cap wasn't a big clue Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 27, 2015 at 9:07 AM Updated Apr 27, 2015 at 4:49 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Apr. 27, 2015 at 9:07 AM Updated Apr 27, 2015 at 4:49 PM » Social News Medford police have tracked down the owner of a red baseball cap inscribed with the name Charlie that investigators found at the scene of a burglary Sunday. It turns out Charlie isn't a burglar. He's a 4-year-old T-ball player whose hat was stolen out of his dad's car over the weekend. The hat — bright red with a bulldog logo on the front and the name Charlie written on the bill's underside — was taken from Seth Burton's vehicle as it sat parked on Argonne Avenue Saturday night. The hat, along with a pair of batting gloves, belongs to Burton's 4-year-old son, who is playing T-ball this spring on a team called the Scrappers. "Of all the things to steal out of my car, (they) stole batting gloves and the hat," Burton said. Burton added he wasn't aware the equipment had gone missing until Sunday when pictures of the hat turned up on Medford police's Facebook page. Investigators posted pictures of the hat in hopes someone would be able to identify its owner, who police suspected might be responsible for a burglary in the 2400 block of Argonne Avenue in southeast Medford. The hat was found Sunday morning in a driveway where a ski jacket and two phone chargers had gone missing from a truck parked out front. A soldering gun and some table saw blades were stolen from that home's garage, accessed with a spare key taken from the truck. Police estimate the suspect made off with about $600 worth of property. Investigators suspect the same thief stole a tan 2001 Toyota Camry with Oregon license plate 189 FCS. The car disappeared from the same area that night. Burton has since had the hat and batting gloves returned. Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call Medford police at 541-770-4784.
