Brown leads SOU softball team to sweep EUGENE - Southern Oregon ran its winning streak to nine games behind shutout efforts by pitcher Brandi Brown in a non-conference doubleheader with Northwest Christian on Wednesday afternoon. Brown allowed only nine hits in winning both games of the twin bill, 3-0 and 4-0, to improve her record to 10-2. The Raiders (10-2) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1 behind back-to-back singles by Brown and Lisa Aitchison and an Alyssa Ellis effort that was misplayed to load the bases. After a sacrifice fly by Stacey Marshall scored one run, Aleisha Buhl reached on another error to make the score 2-0. SOU added a security run in the seventh when Haley Varley reached on a single to continue her 11-game hitting streak. The Raiders once again loaded the bases when Seanna Doyel reached on an error and Latisha Inget was hit by a pitch, with Angie Chaplin following with a sacrifice fly to center field. Chaplin proved to be the hero in Game 2 when she rocketed an offering well over the center field fence for a three-run homer in the fourth inning. The long ball was the former South Medford High standout's first of the season after belting five last year. "That was exactly what we needed," said SOU coach James Gravelle. "Angie was in a little bit of a hitting slump but she came through and was clutch for us today. She's our main power source and she proved it today." Scoring on the play were Doyel and Inget, who had each reached base following an error. Aitchison added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to close out the scoring. Varley's hitting streak came to a close in the nightcap when the former North Medford standout failed to get a hit.
