JCSO photo. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police forensic investigators are working to identify the body found along the Roxy Ann Peak trail. A hiker found the human remains Monday evening while hiking the trail with a dog, according to a release issued Wednesday morning by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The following day, the sheriff’s office deployed a Search and Rescue ground team, human remains detection dogs, and medical examiner detectives to recover the body and investigate the scene. Detectives have found no signs or indicators of suspicious activity. Police described the remains as skeletonized and in an advanced state of decomposition. The Medical Examiner’s office will work with an Oregon State Police forensic pathologist to identify the remains, conduct an autopsy and determine the individual’s cause and manner of death. Police will release the name of the deceased individual only after positive scientific identification and next of kin notification.
