Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 7, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Oct. 7, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Oct. 7, 1915 RECALL PETITION IS BEING CIRCULATED FOR COUNCILMENT Recall petitions are reported in circulation today against councilmen Mann, Miles, Sargent and Hargreave because of their attitude opposing the proposed rebonding plan. The instigators of the recall are those who circulated the rebonding petitions asking for a special election, and the threat of recall has been frequently made as a means of coercion to whip the councilmen into line. There is no pay attached to the office of councilman and the present council was only induced to except the office upon urgent solicitation of leading citizens. Councilman Medynski states that E.H. Fehl is the instigator of the petition. LOCAL AND PERSONAL A large crowd attended the Page Theater last night to see Theda Bara in "Lady Audley's Secret." Many from out of town attended. It was the best film production in which Theda Bara has appeared in the city, and she is in three intensely interesting parts. It will be presented again tonight for the last time. Elmer Lynch , charged with cattle stealing, and Jack Palmer, accused of introducing liquor on the Klamath reservation, were brought to the city this morning for appearance before the federal grand jury. Owners and residents of Highcroft, Siskiyou Heights, Queen Anne and Laurelhurst additions at the eastern edge of the city are up in arms over the invasion of their premises by trespassing hunters who wake them before daylight in their bombardment of pheasant and who tear down and disregard the no-hunting signs. The few pheasants in this locality are neighborhood pets and have been tamed by being fed regularly. District Attorney Kelly was consulted today and promised prompt prosecution for hunters. Farmers of the valley are holding their hogs for a higher price, there being a wide difference between the price of pork on the hoof and on the butcher's block and between Portland and Chicago markets. There is a strong demand for cattle, and another carload will be shipped out at the end of the week.
