LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the editor: May 8 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 8, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 8, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News If you can read this "A good teacher is like a candle — it consumes itself to light the way for others." — author unknown In the span of a day they are more than just educators: They are counselors, parents, mentors, and for some children they are the only person in the world who really cares. They set aside their own needs to fulfill those of others, not because they have to — but because they want to. They are the first at work and often stay long after everyone else has gone home to their loved ones, knowing that the work they do now will make a difference in someone's day — maybe even their life. At school, they work tirelessly, drawing from strength they never knew they had; at home, their minds work overtime — already filled with thoughts about the next day and how they can make things better for some. Morning comes much too soon; but when that alarm rings, they gladly get up ... and do it all over again. Thank you, teachers. Louise Garner White City Crain: justice in action Pat Crain is a woman who cares. As a Jackson County Circuit Court judge assigned to Community Family Court, Judge Crain works with families torn by addiction, abuse and neglect. As the presiding judge in Adult Drug Court, Crain oversees a structured course of rehabilitation for individuals struggling to put their lives back together after committing crimes associated with their drug use. On the juvenile court Judge Crain makes measured decisions regarding the most difficult child custody decisions. Judge Crain has helped create alternatives to incarceration that foster healthy, law-abiding individuals — citizens who can nurture their children, support families and contribute to the economy. This is community justice in action: cost effective and compassionate strategies that create a stronger, safer and more resilient community. Please join me in supporting the re-election of Judge Pat Crain. Pam Marsh Ashland Support RCC bond measure Thank you, Mail Tribune, for bringing the bond measure to support RCC’s growth out front with your editorial endorsement! With so much political noise in the air, it is often hard to find something we can all agree on — or at least that most of us can — and RCC is this election’s point of agreement. You did a splendid job of outlining what the college brings to the entire Rogue Valley community. Now is the time for that community to support the college. A Yes vote, costing 5 cents per thousand, will revitalize aging classrooms, develop areas for teaching new technology, create space to train medical and dental support personnel and enlarge the emergency services/fire training facilities. Not bad for 5 cents per thousand. Please join with me in voting Yes for RCC Bond Measure 17-69. It will benefit the students, the economy, the valley … and all of us! Gene Abell Medford Arrasmith for assessor David Arrasmith has been a Jackson County deputy assessor since 1985. He is currently the team leader responsible for multi-family, commercial and industrial zoned properties and for business personal property as well. He is the only candidate qualified to appraise all of these property types. He served as chairman of the Rogue Valley Transportation board and for four years on the Rogue Federal Credit Union board. Large business concerns that he has appraised include the Rogue Valley Mall, Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport, Providence Hospital and the Rogue Valley Manor I met David a year and a half ago at the Star Promenaders Square Dance Club. He also trains his horse with the Trail Dust Saddle Club. His professional, civic and social activities make him a person who is out and about in our community. David Arrasmith is the wise choice for assessor. Tom Lamoree Ashland Vote for RVTD, RCC For the price of one nice dinner out a year we can afford to make sure our college grows to meet the needs of our workforce and our transportation system can continue to serve the needs of our community, getting people to work, seniors to doctor appointments, and others with transportation needs, as well as serving areas not currently with service. An added bonus is that our natural gas fueled buses are much kinder to the air we breathe. Please vote yes for both measures.
