An electrical storm zapped the Jacksonville school’s aging system Wednesday. Bob Maynard, president of Energy Outfitters, a Grants Pass wholesale distributor of renewable-energy equipment, read a Mail Tribune story about the damage and thought he had a solution. Just two weeks ago he replaced the phone system at his business. The old system, a top performer in the 1980s, had a few years on it, but was still in fine condition, he said. "I called them immediately," Maynard said. Advertisement Though he wasn’t familiar with the school, he was glad to know that his old phone system might be of use to someone. "If it doesn’t meet their needs, they can trade it in or sell it at their auction," he said. The school conducts an annual fund-raising auction with donations from the community, school officials said. Because the system is rather aged, it likely will provide a financial boost toward a new system rather than be pushed into service, said Dave Schneider, a school volunteer who helps with technology services. Still, he’s confident that from the first crack of lightning to the Maynards’ generosity, a master plan is at work.
