Western tops SOU in girls soccer, 2-1 MONMOUTH � Cori Juba and Lydia Shannon scored goals in the first six minutes of the second half as Western Oregon dealt Southern Oregon a 2-1 women�s soccer loss. Southern Oregon�s Tiffany Mason scored in the 62nd minute Raider goalkeeper Emily Schifferling collected 10 saves as the Wolves outshot the visitors, 29-5. Western Oregon improved to 7-3 overall, while Southern Oregon fell to 2-3. Cross Country AGGIE INVITATIONAL � At Davis, Calif., Southern Oregon had a good showing against mainly NCAA Division I and II teams. The SOU women placed ninth out of 22 schools, while the men finished eighth out of 21. UC-Davis won the men�s and women�s team title and had each individual winner. Senior Sarah Kleppin was the top Raider woman runner with a 15th-place finish. Kleppin covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:46 in her first collegiate race "She went out real fast," said Southern Oregon coach Greg Allen. "Her first mile was way too fast. If she manages her race a tad better, we expect big things from her in the future." Other top SOU runners were Alison Garich (49th, 20:03) and Liana Bernard (56th, 20:12). The Raider men were led by freshmen Sean Petersen and Travis Floeck, last year�s Class 3A state 800-meter winner from South Umpqua. Petersen finished 57th in the 5-mile race with a mark of 27:25, while Floeck placed 68th in 27:41. "It�s really encouraging," said Allen. "We had four freshmen within 35 seconds of each other. I couldn�t have asked for more."
