LOCAL ROUNDUP Royals' streak continues ROSEBURG -- Justin Whisenhunt fired a two-hit shutout in the opening game and North Jackson erupted for 27 his on the day as the streaking Royals rolled to 12-0 and 8-5 victories over Roseburg Horizon Thursday in American Legion A baseball. The Royals, 27-6 overall, have won their last 14 games. Ryan Garrett backed Whisenhunt with two singles, a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs in the opener. Whisenhunt struck out five and didn't walk a batter as he improved his record to 6-1. In the second game, Whisenhunt, Evan Pogue, Jake Kleker and Mike Newmann all had two hits. One of Newmann's hits was a home run. The Royals return to league play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they meet the North Medford Mavericks for a doubleheader at North Medford High. CENTRAL POINT 6-7, SOUTH MEDFORD 1-8 -- Andy Bartels was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing home Kyle Hadley with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as South Medford salvaged an American Legion A split with Central Point. Hadley led off the seventh with a walk and advanced to second on Juston Horstman's sacrifice bunt. Horstman was safe at first after a Pilot error and Dave Thrapp then singled to load the bases with no outs. Following a ground out, Andy Bartels was hit and Hadley trotted home with the winning run. Thrapp led the Colts at the plate in the second game, going 3-for-5, while Josh Tompkins, Dustin Butler and Bartels all had two hits. Cory Sweet led South in the opener with a 2-for-3 showing. District 6 Little League MEDFORD AMERICANS ADVANCE -- At Hunter Park, the Medford Americans picked up a 3-2 win over Phoenix/Talent in Thursday's Major Boys all-star tournament. Medford's Kyle Williamson pitched three innings for the win, giving up three hits. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored twice. Jared Adamson was 3-for-4, while Mike Barry and Troy Marsic went 2-for-3 for Medford.
