Mail Tribune 100, June 26, 1922 By Alissa Corman Jun 26, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago June 26, 1922 DON’T CARRY OFF BABY FAWN, IT IS AGAINST THE LAW This is the season when young fawns wander in the woods in the hill districts and the temptation is strong to pick up and carry away these pretty creatures of the wild, which is strictly against the law, as few people are aware. Patrick Dailey, district game warden, who had a business like grouch on today, issued a warning to the public through this newspaper that if he learned of any one picking up a fawn and carrying it home he would prosecute him to the limit. “You cannot make it too strong, “ said Mr. Dailey, in speaking of the matter. “I mean business and whoever takes away one of these fawns will find it a costly move. The law protects the fawns. The idea of any one carrying away one of these helpless creatures just born a few hours or days before is a cruel crime! The little fellows need the care of their mammas.” At this juncture Pat broke down with emotion. After wiping his eyes the tender hearted game warden terminated the interview with, “I mean it. I will soak any offender to the limit.” MORE EQUIPMENT FOR PLAYGROUNDS AT ASHLAND PARK Ashland, June 26. — Expenses incident to the installation of additional equipment on the children’s playgrounds in the parks had to be met, and it is left to the Parent-Teachers association to finance the undertaking, that organization having assumed the needed outlay. An avenue for securing this assistance is now open, providing advantage is taken of the opportunity at once. This refers to a movie entrainment at the Vining from time to time. The attraction on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week is a fine one, “Little Lord Fauntleroy,” stressing the genius of Mary Pickford. Parent-Teacher members are canvassing the business section in the sale of tickets, school pupils carrying the campaign into the residential sections. The association receives a percentage 3 on tickets sold in this manner, but not upon admission paid for at the door, and those interested will please make a note of this circumstance ... Other fine entertainments for the school children will be available under same auspices, provided financial success attends this venture, and in order to make it so, it is hoped that the response in the way of purchasing tickets will be a generous one. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
