2 Ashland candidates off ballot ASHLAND � The whittling away process has already begun in Ashland�s crowded mayoral race. Two of seven prospective candidates did not turn in enough qualified signatures to make the November ballot. Student taxi owner Andrew Bangsberg and Fred Meyer clerk Marty Paola had some of their signatures disqualified by the Jackson County Elections Department, and did not meet the 25-signature requirement by Thursday�s deadline. Parks Commission candidate Attorney Joe Charter�s name will not appear on the ballot for the same reason. With the filing period now closed, here�s a summary of those still on the ballot: For mayor: Carole Wheeldon, Gary Smith, Betty Hutto, John Freedom and Alan DeBoer. City Council Position No. 1: Don Laws. City Council Position No. 3: Cate Hartzell and Chris Hearn. City Council Position No. 5: John Morrison and Michael Gibbs. Parks and Recreation Commission Position No. 1: JoAnne Eggers. Parks and Recreation Commission Position No. 2: Jim Lewis and Susan Landfield.
