The Panthers used Adamson’s performance and the pitching of freshman Griffin Boyd to hand visiting Klamath Union an 11-1 defeat in Southern Oregon Conference baseball at North Medford High. Adamson’s fourth-inning grand slam propelled South (12-3, 8-2 SOC) to the six-inning, mercy-rule victory. The junior shortstop also anchored the Panthers errorless defense. With the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Adamson barehanded a slow roller and made the play at first to get the Panthers out of a jam. "It was a solid defensive effort all the way around," South Medford coach Steve Antich said. "In particular, Jared had a great game at shortstop. He made a couple of real difficult plays." Advertisement Boyd (3-0) allowed just two hits in five shutout innings. He struck out three and walked four. "Griff used the defense and let them put the ball in play," said Antich. "Early on, his control wasn’t there, but he settled down and was able to throw all three of his pitches for strikes." The Panthers staked Boyd to a three-run lead in the first inning. Dan Chancler opened with a double. Mark Austad followed with a single, and Logan Boyd delivered an RBI double. Justin Meyer added an RBI single, and Adamson drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly. Chancler went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and an RBI to spark the Panthers’ 13-hit attack. Logan Boyd contributed two hits, two runs and one RBI, while Marcus James added two hits and one RBI, and Adamson hit his first home run of the season and drove in five runs. "When we get Danny (Chancler) on, he has good speed and makes things happen," said Antich. "It’s a big boost for us." The Pelicans (2-12, 1-8 SOC) got three hits and scored their only run in the sixth inning off James in relief. "We basically took care of business at the plate, defensively and pitched the ball well," said Antich. "We thought we would have our best ball ahead of us, and we played that way today."
