Kasaundra Tuma and Emily Nay smacked 11 kills apiece with just one error between them, leading the Mountaineers to a 25-21, 25-15, 26-24 win over the Raiders and a .336 attacking average — the most efficient for an SOU opponent since the final match of the 2013 season. EOU went to 15-1 overall and 10-0 in the Cascade Conference, upping its lead atop the CCC standings to two matches. Tied with the Mountaineers at the start of the weekend, SOU fell to 15-2 and 8-2. The Raiders have lost their last four regular-season matches here, and the Mountaineers have been a top-13 team in the NAIA for the last three of those. SOU hadn't been swept in a CCC contest in 40 outings, dating back to Concordia's straight-setter in Ashland on Sept. 20, 2013. Corynn Kopra had 11 kills and 11 digs for the Raiders, who hit a modest .200 as a team. Their biggest problem was on the defensive side and the fact that their three blocks were fewer than they've generated since the end of the 2013 season and less than half of their three-set average. Tyana Andrews and Laura Morse had seven kills apiece and combined for 17 digs, while Niki Small had seven kills and was in on three blocks. Lauren McGowne registered 34 assists and six digs, and Ashlyn Flynn chipped in 10 digs. Men's Soccer SOU 1, EASTERN OREGON 0: At Ashland, freshman Kirk Bassett lofted a 20-yard shot that found the back of the net in the 57th minute of the Cascade Conference match. SOU improved to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the CCC, while EOU went to 2-6 and 1-5. The difference for the Raiders, at least offensively, has been the work of youngsters such as Bassett, a product of South Eugene High. With his score, 27 of their 33 goals have been produced by freshmen. And with Brendan Allen's help on the play, so have 17 of their 23 assists. After limited action on both sides during the first half, Allen received a pass on a breakaway and had plenty of momentum but little daylight. He was tripped up while trying to get his shot off, but the ball found Bassett, who kicked as drawn-out EOU keeper Alfredo Lara retreated back to his post. Bassett is up to three goals this season, and the assist wsa Allen's second. Women's Soccer EASTERN OREGON 1, SOU 0: At Ashland, Eastern Oregon freshman Zoe Anderson struck for her 11th goal of the season in the ninth minute and the Mountaineers used tight defense to secure the Cascade Conference win. Morgan Delay assisted the goal with a lead pass that Anderson took for one touch and a 10-yard dart of a shot. The Mountaineers were more intent on limiting SOU's opportunities than creating their own, coming away with their second one-goal win of the weekend. EOU improved to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the CCC. SOU, which put two shots on goal, went to 4-7-2 overall, 3-3 in the CCC and had a three-game win streak snapped. The loss was the Raiders' first at home in six games dating back to last season. It was also the third time they've been shut out this year. EOU keeper Jessica Parker got credit for it, giving her five solo and three shared this season.
