10 creeks aren�t fit for swimming With swimming season in sight, the Rogue Valley Council of Governments Water Resources Department has released a list of 10 unsafe creeks. Through routine water testing, authorities have indicated that the creeks are unsafe for swimming and wading because of levels of fecal coliform bacteria that exceed state and county standards. Residents are asked to avoid contact with the following creeks: Neil Creek, Ashland Butler Creek, Ashland Ashland Creek, below the Wastewater Treatment Plant Bear Creek, from Valley View Road in Ashland to the Rogue River Payne Creek, Phoenix interchange Coleman Creek, Phoenix Larson Creek, Medford Lone Pine Creek at Table Rock Road in Medford Griffin Creek, Central Point Jackson Creek, Central Point This information was gathered for Bear Creek Basin only and does not include all creeks in the basin. High levels of fecal coliform can be caused by leaking septic systems, livestock wastes, illegal dumping from portable toilets or RVs, or any other activity that involves the discharge of fecal matter directly into creeks or storm drains.
