Grants Pass gets the No. 6 seed The fifth-ranked Grants Pass Cavemen received the No. 6 seed in this week�s 4A boys state basketball tournament that begins Tuesday at Memorial Coliseum in Portland. The Cavemen will play No. 11 seed Westview of the Metro Conference in the first round on Tuesday. The game will tip off at 1:30 p.m. The Wildcats finished the season 18-8 and were third in the conference. The Cavemen, the preseason pick to win the Southern Oregon Conference, finished second with a 23-2 overall mark and a 12-2 record in SOC play after back-to-back losses to Roseburg and South Medford in early February. The Cavemen were ranked as high as No. 2 in the state this season. Sixth-ranked Roseburg (19-4 overall, 13-1 SOC) received the No. 8 seed. The SOC champion Indians will open against No. 9 seed McNary Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Celtics finished tied for second in the Valley League and ended the regular season with a 19-5 overall record. Top-ranked Jefferson, the defending 4A champion, grabbed the No. 1 seed. Churchill earned the No. 2 seed, Jesuit the No. 3 seed, Benson the No. 4 seed and South Salem grabbed the No. 5 seed. Clackamas drew the No. 7 seed while David Douglas earned the No. 10, Bend No. 12, Lake Oswego No. 13, Redmond No. 14, Barlow No. 15 and McMinnville No. 16. The tournament will run through Saturday.
