For her to jump ahead and predict in public that Hillary or a Republican is going to win shows a bias typical of conservative corporate newspapers like hers. Her opinion also shows how out of touch she is with most Americans. Why is it that Bernie is almost exponentially gaining ground? It's the same reason Trump is doing well: People are tired of the establishment. Trump will not win through because his appeal is only with a small population and his policies have been exposed as nothing more then sound bites. Why does Harrop think Hillary has moved so far left on her policies recently? Bernie. Yet her adaptation won't work because everyone knows she's sold out. She's a fake. Why doesn't Harrop take some real time and learn Bernie's policies and include him in this division as a potential winner, because that's a cold hard fact. Forest Berg Ashland Audit long overdue Addressed to all three elected commissioners, members of the county’s budget committee: “If one is not part of the ROI solution, then one has self-identified as being part of your budgetary problems.” Typically, an employee’s worth is calculated by subtracting the cost of their individual overhead (salary, perks, stipends, benefits) from the potential fiscal loss created by her/his dismissal. For example, let’s say an employee’s salary is more than $242,000 a year plus monthly housing/automobile/telecomm stipends, plus benefits, etc. Question: Would Jackson County’s finances hemorrhage to the magnitude of at least a quarter-million dollars a year in the scenario of dismissing Jackson County’s administrator? Given the strong competence of our $132,000-a-year deputy administrator, inquiring taxpayers would like to know. Another consideration: The county counsel takes home more than $100,000, yet taxpayers have received little more than obstructionist obfuscation from that position when directed by the Board of Commissioners to enforce federal coordination laws against bureaucratic encroachments, which have decimated Jackson County’s resource-based economy at a rate far, far exceeding $100,000 per year. In other words, employees that come up net-negative should be seriously considered by the corporation as being no longer viable to retain. Kevin Goodrich Central Point Two huge countdowns First countdown: We've got about two decades to switch from being fossil fuel-centered to renewable energy-centered in order to stabilize our planet's climate. We have the technology right now. The longer we wait the more difficult and costly it becomes. The second countdown is in our Legislature, where there are two weeks left to pass a Healthy Climate Bill (SB 1574) that fully starts the process of powering down fossil fuels in Oregon. If we can get it done, we will join the successes of California and British Columbia, and along with Washington, we will make up a Pacific Coast green alignment that shows the rest of the country what can be done. In passing this bill now, we give ourselves time to refine and improve as we transform, glad that solar and wind energies are more labor-intensive because we need jobs. The Healthy Climate Bill will reduce coal-fired electricity use in Oregon further each year with provisions benefiting low-income and distressed communities, job re-training and assistance in economic diversification. Call or email the governor and your legislators asking them to bring the bill to a yes vote now!
