A criminal investigation into the wreck is ongoing, and Campbell said he will speak with Medford police detectives to determine if further grand jury proceedings are necessary. "There’s a chance I’ll call back the grand jury to hear more testimony," Campbell said Friday. He wouldn’t discuss the nature of the additional evidence. He said it might be "weeks" before another hearing is held. A Jackson County grand jury met twice last month to consider evidence in the case, and found a pair of police officers acted appropriately while chasing a speeding Jeep Cherokee as it traveled along Medford streets. The Cherokee was traveling about 102 mph when it struck a Chevy Blazer at the intersection of Riverside Avenue and Jackson Street. The Blazer’s driver, Charles Bench, 26, of Shady Cove, died at the scene. The driver of the Cherokee, Kevan Thatcher-Stephens, 17, of Ashland, died later that evening at a Medford hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. The grand jury heard testimony that indicated Thatcher-Stephens’ blood-alcohol content at the time of the crash was at least .13 percent. The limit is .08 percent for those of legal drinking age. The source of the alcohol remains under investigation. Campbell previously said police are continuing to investigate if any adult had a role in providing alcohol to Thatcher-Stephens that night.
