Event benefits Crater grads CENTRAL POINT -- A dessert and auction to raise money for scholarships will be held Thursday at Crater High School. The event is an important fund-raising project for the Crater Foundation's scholarship fund. The foundation's goal is to be able to offer by the year 2000 a scholarship to every Crater High School graduate continuing his or her education. The program, "Snowy Days Starry Nights," will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Crater's student center. Guests will be able to nibble on treats and make silent and oral bids on donated items. The auction will include travel packages, hot-air balloon rides and Beanie Babies. "With the recent failure of the Central Point school bond levy, this event and others like it become even more important," said Crater Foundation President Harvey Tonn. "We need to let our students know we care about their education and support them. "Last year's auction resulted in 14 new scholarships for our kids." The Crater Foundation formed in 1992 to assist Central Point School District students and schools with scholarships, extra-curricular activities, capital improvements and human needs. The foundation is administered by local educators, alumni and business owners who volunteer their time and resources.
