Medford police headquarters exterior taking shape Comment By Local report MailTribune.com By Local report Posted Apr. 8, 2016 at 5:11 PM By Local report Posted Apr. 8, 2016 at 5:11 PM » Social News Windows and much of the siding have been installed on the $23 million Medford police headquarters and secure parking garage at the corner of Ivy and 10th streets. Adroit Construction Co. of Ashland has completed much of the exterior of the building, which will be the largest police headquarters in Oregon south of Eugene. Adroit expects to finish the 46,500-square-foot building by September, but it won’t be operational until October after equipment and furniture are moved in. The first floor of the station will feature a lobby, community room, records area, interview room and locker rooms for female and male officers. An elevator will have two doors to limit access to sensitive areas of the building that are generally off-limits to the public. A panic button is inside the lobby, allowing people to lock the front door from a distance. The building has been designed to keep suspects and victims separated as well as to protect the privacy of anyone seeking safe harbor. The second floor will have processing and interview rooms, as well as offices for investigators and patrol officers. Medford Area Drug Gang Enforcement and other specialized units will be on the second floor. A secure entrance will allow access from the parking lot to the second floor. Suspects will be brought into the parking garage, passing through two gates. Officers will escort them into processing rooms that resemble stark jail cells with concrete block walls. A detox cell will be available for intoxicated prisoners. The third floor will have administrative offices and training and briefing rooms. Police chief Randy Sparacino and other top brass will have offices on this floor. A new 90,000-square-foot secure parking garage will have a special parking area for a SWAT van. A nearby SWAT armory will store equipment so officers can be ready to roll in a few minutes.
