D.A. takes murder case to grand jury Tuesday A grand jury will hear the district attorney's case against a Shady Cove woman accused of killing her husband Tuesday, the lead prosecutor said. An indictment against Dawn Ellen Roble-Baker is expected, said Allan Smith, the deputy district attorney handling the case. "I don't see any problems with the grand jury returning an indictment," he added. Investigators said Roble-Baker, 45, killed her husband, Jack Dee Baker, three years ago and buried him on their rental property outside Trail. Roble-Baker was arraigned on a murder charge Thursday, but she has yet to enter a plea. She was being held without bail at the Jackson County Jail late Friday. Smith said it's still unclear why Roble-Baker killed her husband. Investigators allege that Roble-Baker struck Baker in the head with a sharp object. "It's not that there's no motive. It's just not real clear what the motive is," Smith said. A Trail man discovered Baker's skeletal remains March 12 as he cleared some blackberry bushes near the Busch Road home where the Bakers lived in January 1997. The body was buried in a sleeping bag under some pipes, investigators said. Sheriff's deputies were unable to identify Baker through missing persons reports or an autopsy, but learned that Baker matched a general description of the victim. Subsequent investigations led deputies to Roble-Baker, who reportedly confessed to killing her husband.
