CRIME Burglars leave Medford's Hoover Elementary a mess Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 16, 2015 at 9:54 AM Updated Jun 16, 2015 at 4:20 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Jun. 16, 2015 at 9:54 AM Updated Jun 16, 2015 at 4:20 PM » Social News Burglars trashed Medford's Hoover Elementary while making off with several pieces of electronics over the weekend, Medford police said. Police said burglars broke into the gymnasium and cafeteria and stole a stereo, several stop watches and a pedometer. They also broke into cabinets, scrawled on the walls with markers, sprayed a fire extinguisher in one of the hallways, and wrote an expletive in strips of duct tape in the gym, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said. They also broke into a freezer, ate several Popsicles and left wrappers scattered through the building. "There's plenty of damage inside," Budreau said, adding the damage and stolen items amounted to hundreds of dollars. School officials reported the crime Monday morning, he said. Police suspect teenagers because of the juvenile nature of the crimes. The suspects also left sneaker prints in the sprayed foam from the fire extinguisher. “It is pretty uncommon to have a school targeted for burglary," Budreau said. "(But) in this case, it really does appear to be juveniles." Investigators are still scratching their heads over how the suspects broke in, as there were no signs of forced entry, and no alarm sounded. Medford School District officials said security cameras are at all district schools, but they didn't know whether Hoover's caught any of the Sunday-night activity. Budreau said Crimestoppers of Southern Oregon is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Callers can be anonymous. Crimestoppers can be reached at 1-800-850-0580. Anyone with information can also contact Medford police at 541-770-4784. Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
