The contest featured 59 fouls, including 32 on the host Highlanders, and North Medford took advantage down the stretch. Kailey Bostwick, who scored 25 points, made 9 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter and 13 of 17 in the game to pace the Black Tornado. She also had five assists. "It was hard to get a rhythm," said North Medford coach Tim Karrick, whose team is 2-0. "We had people coming in and out, different groups of players who hadn’t played with each other, people in different positions. "But the kids showed why they’re a good team. They gutted up, played good defense and executed down the stretch in a pretty hostile territory and a pretty tough game." Advertisement North Medford had three starters get three fouls in the second quarter and watched its 17-point lead dwindle to five at halftime. But it maintained the lead through the second half, forcing North Eugene to foul. Mellisa Eastwold had 19 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Tornado, Caitlin Seeley had 14 points and three assists and Erica Schultz had 12 points and eight rebounds. Jillian Harmon, last year’s state player of the year who is headed to Stanford to play basketball, scored 34 points for the Pacers. She tallied 13 in the third quarter, when Lakeridge took control with a 22-10 advantage. Abeni Hill had 19 points and Jamie Roupp 13 rebounds for Ashland, which plays Thurston today.
