Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 18, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Apr. 18, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News April 18, 1915 Young Crooks Admit Thefts by Local Gangsters Confessions implicating 10 other Medford boys in wholesale criminal operations in this city were obtained this morning by juvenile authorities from Lloyd Wolgamott, George and Fred Anderson and Cecil Randall, on trial for chicken stealing. Wolgamott and the two Anderson boys were ordered committed to the Oregon state training school, and Randall was paroled to John Soutter. Other arrests are still pending. According to the boys in custody, the operations of the gang are extended from stealing milk bottles off back porches to plans to rob a bank in this city. One of the gang now being sought rapped Cecil Brown of the Brown & Hall pool hall over the head with a billiard cue last winter in an attempt  to rob the place, leaving his cap behind. They were also the authors of hold-ups and the epidemic of robberies of grocery stores last winter. The gang was inspired to new deeds by reading of their escapades. The robbery of the grocery stores was to secure food for gang feasts. They had no leader, but were held together by a bond of community interests. All of Medford boyville knew of the operations of the gang, but remained silent, according to the approved rules of gangland. The revelations revealed by the confession will result in a campaign to prevent a repetition of the offenses. In planning for their future operations, the gang entered Ewings gun store and cached them along Bear Creek. Most of the petty thieving of the last six months is admitted by the gang. Wilson's second-hand store was a favorite robbing place, being entered no less than three times.   Poster Stamps Show Scenery of Rogue Valley The Medford Printing company has just issued from their press an order for 100,000 poster stamps for the Medford Commercial Club, comprising eight views of Rogue River valley scenery, showing the sugar pine forest, Crater Lake, Pacific highway, orchards, Mill Creek falls and Rogue river. The views are as clear cut as steel engravings, gummed, perforated edge and eight different subjects to a sheet. More than five-hundred million poster stamps have been sold to American advertisers since January 1st, and it is estimated that five billion will be used this year.
