Letters to the Editor, Feb. 24 Friday Feb 24, 2017 at 12:01 AM Indivisible in Medford Donald Trump is telling everyone that the Affordable Care Act is a total disaster and needs to be dumped. In fact, the Oregon Health Authority reports the number of people in Jackson County without health care insurance dropped from 16 percent in 2012 to just 4.3 percent in 2014 after the roll out of the ACA! The ACA has also created many new well-paying middle class health care jobs right here in the Rogue Valley. By any measure this should be a resounding success! But in the world of Donald Trump and his band of sycophants in Washington, the ACA (Obamacare) must be quickly killed. Trump has already signed White House orders for Congress to throw away our health care. Members of Oregon District 2 Indivisible (see: Facebook Oregon District 2 Indivisible), want to keep health care that protects both patients and the well-paying middle class health care jobs created here in the Rogue Valley by the ACA. Join us in front of the County Courthouse at 10 S. Oakdale Ave. in Medford every Tuesday at noon. We are meeting to rally outside the courthouse every Tuesday for the next several weeks! Donna Breedlove Medford Be wary of the call As we watch and listen to the first flurries of “sound and fury” from our new commander in chief, so far “it signifies nothing”, “’tis a tale told by an idiot”. We must be alert to the clever machinations of the Wizard of Trump Tower lest we fall asleep in the perfume of the populist poppy field planted by him and his obscenely wealthy power brokers. Our fearless leader is still the same vulgar egocentric bully who minimizes opponents: “go home to mommy, little Marco” and “crooked Hillary” the “nasty” woman. He is the same manipulator of the truth that kept the vendetta against President Obama alive with the “birther movement.” He is the same foul-mouthed person who demeans women as sexual objects, trivializes military heroes and mocks and minimizes professional journalists with disability. Words and gestures do matter and we, at our peril, must monitor them carefully as they continue to come from the new administration. “Alternate truths” are by any measure lies, and Mr. President and his spokespersons continue to obfuscate the truth and most shamefully attempt to disenfranchise the media: “they lie”, and put down our legitimate judiciary. Continue to be wary of the Trumpet's call. Bob Kaufman Medford Tired of the hatred My wife and I are getting tired of all the hatred in the news between the media, both parties and President Trump. Aren't we supposed to be a 'united' nation with compassion for others instead of all this hatred? Maybe we could find ourselves again by finding or making jobs for the 94 million Americans of working age who can't find a job and also the 47 million on food stamps who have stopped looking. Many of them would love to have a job so they could support their families. Let's give President Trump a chance to prove himself since he's promised to create millions of jobs and Make America Great Again. He can't do all this stuff by himself, the least we can do is support and pray for him and our nation. What do we have to lose by lifting him up instead of tearing him down?
