The incident was first reported to the Josephine County Sheriff's Office about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a department news release. The man, whose name was not released pending next-of-kin notification, reportedly was on a guided multi-day trip in an inflatable one-person kayak. When the boat reached the Wildcat Rapids in the river's Wild and Scenic section, it flipped over. The man did not surface. His body was later found pinned beneath the water but could not be removed. He was reportedly wearing a life jacket. The sheriff's office said it planned to recover the body from the water Monday with help from county search and rescue crews. The Wildcat Rapids are Class III rapids located about 5 miles below Grave Creek, according to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
