Yup, those lovable state Legislators have resumed doing whatever it is they do every two years — give or take a few extra weeks or months to finish up. There’s a lot on their plates in Salem this time around. So, we decided we’d let you have a chance to set their priorities. After all, we’re the one who picked these folks in the first place. We asked: What is the most important thing you think the Legislature should accomplish this session? Advertisement Your answers follow; with any luck, some of them will make their way north on I-5. After reading through these, please take a moment to answer this week’s question. Get rid of the tax kickback. The ones eligible for it don’t want or need $60 more. Schools, disabled and seniors could use extra money. — Judi H., Gold Hill Redirect more lottery funds to the public school system. — Chris G., Medford Adjournment ... on time. — Steve M., Medford A bill requiring LEGAL RESIDENCY to obtain an Oregon driver’s license or public assistance. — Mark K., Medford I would like to see the state of Oregon live within its means. My family has to live within our budget or face the consequences of debt. Let’s see the Legislature do the same. — S. Self, Medford Taxing wealthy individuals and corporations more and doing their bidding less. — Gordon H., Medford The most important legislative priority this session should be a mandatory, uniform, write-in, easy recount system of voting. — Rheychol P., Jacksonville Rise above partisanship and do the job for which they were elected ... LEGISLATE! — Bill, Cyberspace How about if the legislature finally addresses education! The whole system needs overhauled. The last couple years of high school should be teaching solely life necessities. Like, money: budgeting, credit, investing, balancing a checkbook. How to fill out an employment application, work ethics, etc., etc. — C. Johansson, Medford They should probably focus on balancing the budget while makingeducation a very high priority. — Steve R., Medford Fully fund education first ... before they fund anything else! President Bush takes the oath of office for the second time on Jan. 20, this time as folks at home and abroad face calamities or war and weather. Is this a proper time for a no-holds-barred celebration? Answer before, or after, Thursday’s events, when you’ve had a chance to see it take place in Washington. We ask: " In light of the war in Iraq and disaster relief efforts in the United States and around the world, should the Inauguration festivities for President Bush take on a more subdued manner?"
