Old Navy may open in Medford No word yet on whether Morgan Fairchild, spokesdog Magic, or the lady with the oversized glasses will attend the opening, but Old Navy is coming to Medford. The trendy clothing chain is close to signing a lease on the former Future Shop building in the Crater Lake Plaza, Future Shop officials confirmed Monday. "We have entered into a letter of intent with Old Navy," said Melissa Moseley, Future Shop's director of real estate. Moseley said she expected a lease to be signed within the next 30 days. Old Navy officials, as is their policy, declined to comment until a lease is signed. But a public relations representative who handles Old Navy store openings said the Crater Lake Plaza location is on company real estate reports with a tentative opening date set for mid-September. The 25,226-square-foot building has been vacant since Future Shop closed its 23 U.S. stores in March 1999. Moseley said the home electronics company has subleased all but four of those stores. Future Shop's lease on the Medford building runs until June 30, 2002. Old Navy has been rumored to be expanding to Medford for some time. It was also said to be considering space in the Medford Center, which leased its largest vacant spot to 24 Hour Fitness last month. Old Navy, which opened its first stores in 1994, is a division of Gap Inc. There are more than 500 Old Navy stores in the United States, including four in Oregon: three in the Portland area and one in Bend. Old Navy has headquarters in San Francisco and San Bruno, Calif. Old Navy does not release its annual sales figures, but Gap Inc., the publicly held parent company of Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy, had sales of $11.6 billion in 1999, according to a company press release.
