Mail Tribune 100, Feb. 15, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 15, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted Feb. 15, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News Feb. 15, 1916 PARENT-TEACHERS COUNCIL TO MEET There will be a meeting of the council of the Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teachers' circles at the library Thursday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. The executive committees of the five Parent-Teachers' circles, one lay delegate from each circle and the principals of all the schools constitute the council. The Congress of Mothers and Parent-Teachers' circles is an organization of not only national but international magnitude, its object is child's welfare in the broadest sense of the term. The local auxiliary is thoroughly organized and prepared to do much for the welfare of the children of Medford in the future. The recognition, support and co-operation of the public is earnestly solicited. Business of great importance is to be brought before the Thursday meeting and all the members are urged to be present. LOCAL AND PERSONAL All Ohioans are requested to be present in a meeting at the public library this evening at 7:30 to consider the proposition to organize an Ohio association. Other state representatives have organized and are conducting prosperous and enjoyable associations that, in addition to their social features, are really developing a closer and more friendly relationship between neighbors and helping to preserve historical and other data of great interest. A good attendance is expected to participate in the business of the meeting tonight. The Portland Journal's poultry editor, following an article about the success of the southern Oregon poultry show, says: "Poultry shows are, as a rule, not money making propositions. They are promoted and conducted by organizations composed of poultry fanciers, who are interested in educating the public in the breeding of pure bred poultry of all standard varieties. The door receipts help to pay the many cash prizes and other trophies offered to encourage the breeding of better specimens of the various varieties of our domesticated fowls. Without these exhibitions the progress of improvement in the standard varieties would be reduced to a minimum and the poultry raisers would be handicapped in their endeavor to advance the growth of the pure poultry in this country."
