Letters to the Editor, Oct. 10 Monday Oct 10, 2016 at 12:01 AM Support local history A Rogue Valley Heritage District will fund basic operating costs for 15 heritage organizations. Instead of worrying about keeping the doors open, these organizations can expand programming, share resources and artifacts with the public, and be key components of cultural tourism, a mainstay of Jackson County’s economy. District funding will also help preserve our historic structures. What will it cost? At 5 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, it translates to $8-$10 for the average homeowner — three cups of coffee a year! Changes in public funding laws eliminated previous voter-approved revenues for historic programming and preservation. As an independent entity organized under Oregon Special District laws, the Heritage District would not be subject to this fate. Instead, as a community-driven entity, it would restore, preserve and enhance our priceless history. Please vote yes on Measure 15-164 — our history is worth it! The New American, bi-weekly periodical of The John Birch Society in Appleton, Wisconsin, at www.jbs.org and www.thenewamerican.com, has long exposed Bohemian Grove, including the sinister godless evil Order of Skull and Bones on the Yale campus in New Haven, Connecticut. Also, the United Nations, globalism and international socialism. Even the totalitarian national socialist regimes of communism, Nazism and fascism: Both the murderous Nazi SS and Soviet NKVD during the Hitler/Stalin era, prior to and during World War II (1939-1945), personified state-sanctioned terror, mass murder, and genocide! Modern totalitarian socialism can be traced back to the murderous French Revolution (1789-1799) and the Order of Illuminati which was founded in May 1776 in Ingolstadt, Bavaria (Germany) by Adam Weishaupt. Evil must be exposed, rebuked, and confronted publicly! The Bible states: "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful to speak of those things which are done of them in secret." — Ephesians 5:11, 12 The John Birch Society remains an honest, moral, and credible institution whose message and warnings must be headed, embraced and respected. James A. Farmer Ashland 97 will raise prices I am amazed that John Holm's reason for voting for Measure 97 (Letters, Sept. 27) is the cost of Umpqua ice cream. Surely he understands that any costs to a business (including taxes) are included in the price that the consumer pays. Holm does not mention that this tax will give the state $6 billion with no restriction on how it is spent. Likely it will go to unions, PERS and government bureaucrats. No mention of the elimination of 38,000 private-sector jobs while creating 18,000 government jobs. This tax will increase the cost to all Oregonians for groceries, gasoline, cars, clothes, etc., etc. Even the cost of ice cream will go up. It is estimated that Measure 97 will cost every Oregonian $600 per year. An economics class and common sense would be beneficial. F. He takes his work seriously, he is knowledgeable about city matters and exercises good judgment in voting on the council. I recommend a vote for Dick Gordon for Medford City Council, Ward 1.
