Rollover at exit 30 on I-5 kills driver, injures three small children Saturday Sep 3, 2016 at 9:25 AM Sep 3, 2016 at 5:03 PM A 25-year-old man died and three children suffered minor injuries in a rollover crash early this morning, Oregon State Police said. The man, whose name has not yet been released, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer southbound at about 1:40 a.m. and took the north Medford exit. The Blazer drifted off the roadway and rolled, coming to rest upside-down in the grass. The man died at the scene, OSP said. Three children, age 1, 3 and 4, were taken to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for minor injuries, police said. Medford fire Battalion Chief Ron Nelson said the rear axle was missing from the Blazer when firefighters arrived on the scene. “One of the children was still in the child seat,” he said. “The other two — we had difficulty immediately locating them. They were not in the vehicle when we got there. When someone dies, it can be very chaotic.” Nelson said the vehicle was pretty banged up but the roof wasn’t crushed, and it wasn’t determined whether the occupants of the vehicle were using their seat belts. The vehicle didn't catch on fire, Nelson said. Firefighters had a difficult time trying to determine what happened both leading up to and after the crash, he said. “There are pieces of the puzzle that don’t make sense to us,” he said. “Not that we're saying there was anything wrong.”
