Oregon State Police allege Stephen Bryce Murphy shot Peter Harrod, 23, Tuesday evening while both were passengers in a car traveling west on Riverbanks Road near milepost 21, according to OSP spokeswoman Sgt. Cari Boyd. Harrod was taken to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass, where police said Thursday he was in serious condition, but stable. Troopers from the Grants Pass office and detectives from the Central Point Area Command responded to the scene about 7:13 p.m. Tuesday but found Murphy already had fled, a news release said. The investigation led detectives and members of the OSP SWAT team to serve a search warrant about 6:20 a.m. Thursday at a nearby home at 3923 Riverbanks Road, the release said. Police closed Riverbanks Road during the operation but later reopened it to traffic. Police arrested Murphy about 5:45 p.m. on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, unlawful use of a firearm, four counts of recklessly endangering another, reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Josephine County Jail. Murphy has no prior felony convictions in Oregon, court records show.   MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 26, 2015 at 5:16 PM Updated Mar 27, 2015 at 12:16 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
