Black Tornado breezes by Sheldon Tuesday Apr 4, 2017 at 2:00 AM Apr 4, 2017 at 9:30 AM EUGENE — Olivia Lethlean slugged a three-run home run to left field during her big afternoon for North Medford en route to a Southwest Conference softball sweep of host Sheldon, 16-4 in six innings and 16-6 five innings, on Monday. Lethlean went 3-for-4 in each game and scored four times in the opener for the Black Tornado (9-0, 2-0 SWC), which tallied nine runs in the third inning. Rylan Austin notched 10 strikeouts and got the win from the circle while going 3-for-3 with two RBIs for North Medford, and Jordan Neathamer was 3-for-4. Taelor Mayben and Lauren Barry collected two hits apiece in the opener. In Game 2, Mayben had a two-run single during North’s eight-run second inning. She finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Lethlean added three runs and an RBI. Ashley Ripplinger, who stole two bases in each game, finished 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs in the nightcap, and Danyelle Milam was 2-for-4 and with two RBIs. Austin and Alex Barry scored twice and knocked in a couple of runs for North in Game 2. The Challengers’ Shaylee Ledesma tossed a one-hitter but walked eight batters as she picked up her third win of the season. She also drove in two runs and scored three times. Ali Winter collected three hits, two runs and a pair of RBIs for the Challengers (3-3), while Mia Mayben went for three hits and three runs.
