It's 5 cents per thousand, which means the cost would be $10 per year if your home is valued at $200,000 — less than the cost of a large pizza. The funds will support capital projects (create jobs) and improve facilities for student training in many areas including health care, high technology manufacturing, computer science, fire science and emergency services (benefits all of us when we need 911). It will also help Rogue Community College qualify for matching funds from the state in excess of $8 million that would otherwise be virtually impossible to raise. I support Rogue Community College, its faculty and staff along with its over 17,000 local students. I will proudly vote yes on Measure 17-69 and ask my Southern Oregon community to do the same. Frank Kukla Jr. Jacksonville Transportation for education Each year, RVTD provides 130,000 trips for students to get to school. But last year, RVTD had to reduce service because its base funding rate has not been increased for more than 40 years. Measure 15-141 would mean an increase of about $2 per month for the average homeowner to restore service on Route 10, increasing access for Medford, Phoenix, Talent and Ashland residents to attend SOU. It will pay for a new route to RCC Table Rock campus and employers in that area. Another new route will provide access to neighborhoods surrounding South Medford High School. Passenger fares, already at a high level, can only cover about 20 percent of RVTD's operating costs. RVTD could access more federal funding, but only with the matching funds that Measure 15-141 would generate. Please vote yes on Measure 15-141. Jeff Thomas, chairman, Medford 549C School Board Medford What will they do? Recent information regarding the overwhelming flow of new dollars from marijuana sales leads me to wonder. Will the current members of our elected officials use this bonanza to effect at least some reduction in the cost of government or will they, as I suspect, merely find new ways to spend the money? I think I know which way they will lean. No politician ever has used excess revenues to reduce costs, especially in this state. Jerome C. Withrow Shady Cove Would you? Would you place a bobcat in the chicken yard to stop predation? Would you knowingly elect a thief to be sheriff? Would you hire an immigrant smuggler as a U.S. border agent? Would you trust the word of a man who regularly contradicted his previous statements? Would you make Donald Trump leader of the free world?
