He was born March 20, 1929 to Julius and Daisy Curtis in Riverside, Calif. Curt grew up and later worked in the woods as a timber faller. His family lived in logging camps in northwestern Oregon as well as Vancouver, Wash. during the early 1940s, and finally in Sweet Home, Ore. Curt served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he met Ruth Louise Hoeme at a roller rink in San Francisco. On May 15, 1953 in Chicago, Ill. they were married at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. They first lived in Medford and soon settled on a one-acre farm three miles north of Eagle Point. He was a glue mixer at Fir Ply (later Southwest Forest Industries) plywood mill in White City, Ore. for more than 20 years, and then was a full-time professional beekeeper who loved to read, mentor, teach, and build all things pertaining to honeybees. He also loved to fish, hunt, camp, garden, make wine and beer, play cards and board games, read, and tell stories. Curt’s boisterous laughter was his hallmark. He was a faithful and active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Medford and previously Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Central Point, Ore. where he loved to express his love for, and faith in, his Lord Jesus Christ in worship, song, and Bible study. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; his sons, David, John, Paul and Michael; his grandchildren, Matthieu, Jason, Daniel, and Rachel; and three loving daughters-in-law, Pamela, Angelika, and Monique. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ben and his sisters, Ethel, Julia, Dorothy, Dolores, and Friedel. The family will honor Curt’s preference not to have a memorial service. Instead, they will host a potluck barbecue at the family home from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on his birthday, March 20, 2016, 14370 Hwy 62, Eagle Point, Ore.
