South earns rare win in Klamath Falls KLAMATH FALLS � South Medford surged to 32-16 advantage in the second quarter as the Panthers cruised to a 63-54 Southern Oregon Conference girls basketball victory. The win was the first at Klamath Union for fourth-year Panther coach Andrea Wegner and the first for South (4-2, 1-0 SOC) in at least six seasons on Pelican Court. Emily Perttu scored 12 of her 17 points in the first quarter and Karla Zenz had eight of her 20 also in the first as the Panthers took a 22-13 lead. Kellie Thomas, who finished with 12 points, keyed the Panthers in the second quarter, after getting poked in the eye in the first quarter and missing four minutes. What really pleased Wegner was the Panthers� 39-19 advantage on the backboards. "We had 10 offensive rebounds and they had five offensive rebounds," Wegner said. "We did a great job of shutting them down on there end with our man-to-man defense. They weren�t able to go where they wanted on offense." Zenz finished with 14 rebounds, while Amber Hunt and Whitney Grant had nine each. Zenz was also poked in the eye and missed four minutes of the third quarter.
